9 SIGNS TO WATCH OUT FOR
Have you ever met someone who says they are a Christian, yet everyone around them dreads interacting with them?
They attend every service; they know the Scriptures, and they can pray passionately. Yet at home, they’re impatient. At work, they’re harsh. In traffic, they’re quick to anger. Online, they’re the first to throw insults.
It raises an important question: If the Holy Spirit truly lives in you, shouldn’t people experience Him through you?
Apostle Paul wrote about the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22–23:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance…”
Notice that the Bible doesn’t say fruits of the Spirit; it says fruit.
Imagine holding an orange in your hand. It has different segments, yet it is still one fruit. In the same way, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control are different expressions of one life, the life of Christ growing within you. They are the evidence that the Holy Spirit is at work in you.
Over the coming weeks, you’ll discover what each of these expressions looks like in everyday life—in your home, workplace, business, friendships and even on social media.
And there is no better place to begin than with LOVE.
If someone asked you to describe love, what would come to mind?
A wedding ceremony? Flowers? A heartfelt text message? Maybe a parent staying awake all night beside a sick child, or a friend who stays by your side when everyone else has walked away. These are beautiful pictures of love, but biblical love goes much deeper.
The love of God is not just an emotion that comes and goes. It is a decision and a commitment.
The Greek word often used in the New Testament is agape, which means a selfless, sacrificial love that seeks another person’s good even when it comes at a personal cost. This is exactly how God loves you.
Romans 5:8 says:
“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
God did not wait until you deserved His love. He loved you first.
As a believer, your love should not depend on whether people deserve it; you should love because Christ first loved you.
In today’s world, saying “I love you” has become effortless, but putting it into practice is a different challenge. Love listens before speaking; love forgives when pride wants revenge; love corrects without condemning; love celebrates another person’s success instead of secretly competing with them; love gives without constantly keeping score.
Sometimes love means apologising first, sometimes it means choosing peace over proving a point, sometimes it means praying for someone who offended you instead of speaking against them, and sometimes it simply means showing up for someone who needs encouragement.
Love is the foundation from which every other expression of the Spirit grows.
When love is present, joy becomes authentic, peace becomes possible, patience becomes easier, and kindness becomes a natural response rather than a forced one. Spiritual growth isn’t measured only by how much Scripture we know or how passionately we worship. It’s also revealed in how we treat people when no one is watching and the grace we extend when it’s difficult.
