THE ‘FORBIDDEN FRUIT’

Let’s Talk About Sexual Urges (Yes… That One)

No judging, no pretending, no “holier-than-thou”, just honesty, because if we’re being real, almost every single Christian has had to fight this battle.

That random thought that came out of nowhere.

The urge that showed up at the most inconvenient time.

The Instagram Reel you didn’t go looking for but somehow stayed on a little longer than you should have.

The movie scene that replayed in your head long after the credits rolled.

The “I’m just lonely” text that almost became something else.

The monthly hormonal shifts some ladies experience that suddenly make their emotions—and desires—feel louder than usual.

Or waking up as a guy wondering why your body seems to have held a meeting without informing you first.

Let’s be honest, sexual urges are real, and if you’ve ever struggled with them, welcome. You’re not weird, you’re not alone, and you’re not beyond God’s help.

First Things First…

Having sexual urges does not automatically make you a bad Christian. It doesn’t mean you’re possessed. It doesn’t mean you’ve backslidden, and it doesn’t mean God has abandoned you. It means you’re human. God created our bodies and designed sexuality. The desire itself isn’t sinful; what we choose to do with that desire is where obedience begins.

James 1:14 reminds us that temptation happens when we’re drawn away by our own desires. Notice the wording: temptation is not yet sin. Jesus Himself was tempted (Hebrews 4:15), yet He never sinned. So don’t condemn yourself simply because you’re fighting.

The battle itself isn’t proof of failure; sometimes, it’s proof that you’re still standing.

Why Does It Feel Like This Battle Is Everywhere?

Because… it kind of is.

We live in a generation where almost everything competes for our attention.

Memes

Even comment sections.

Sometimes you aren’t looking for anything inappropriate; it simply finds you. One minute you’re watching football highlights; the next minute the algorithm has taken you somewhere completely different, and you’re wondering, “How did we get here?”

The truth is, temptation today is more accessible than it has ever been, but accessibility doesn’t remove responsibility.

You may not be able to control everything you see, but you can still control what you dwell on.

The Battle Is Less About Your Eyes and More About Your Heart

Jesus said, “Anyone who looks lustfully has already committed adultery in his heart.” Notice He didn’t say people would never notice beauty. He addressed what happens after the first glance.

Someone once said, “You can’t stop birds from flying over your head, but you can stop them from building a nest there.” That’s exactly how temptation works. The first thought may not be your choice, but the second thought usually is.

So… What Can You Actually Do?

1. Guard What Feeds Your Mind

Your mind is a garden. Whatever you consistently water will grow. If most of what you consume celebrates lust, eventually your thoughts will begin to lean that way too.

This isn’t only about explicit content. It’s also the jokes, the conversations, the accounts you follow, the books, the series you binge, and the music constantly playing in your ears.

Philippians 4:8 gives us one of the healthiest mental diets ever written: “Whatever is true, noble, pure, lovely, or excellent. Think about those things.

2. Don’t Fight Alone

One of the enemy’s favourite lies is “You’re the only Christian struggling with this.” You’re not. Many believers are quietly facing the same struggle. Find mature, trusted believers you can talk to. Not people who will shame you, but people who will pray with you, encourage you, and hold you accountable.

Healing grows where honesty lives.

3. Learn Your Triggers

Some people struggle most when they’re lonely, others when they’re stressed, some after heartbreak, some late at night, and some during certain periods of their monthly cycle. Know yourself.

If every bad decision starts after midnight…perhaps midnight isn’t the time to begin scrolling endlessly. Wisdom isn’t just praying harder; sometimes it’s putting your phone down earlier, and sometimes you may need to do a social media fast and stay away from your phone for a while.

4. Stay Occupied With Purpose

An idle mind gives temptation far too much room to negotiate.

Serve, study, exercise, build something, learn something and spend time with people. The goal isn’t to distract yourself forever; it’s to make sure your life is full enough that temptation doesn’t become your favourite pastime.

5. When the Urge Comes… Run to God, Not Away From Him

Many believers make this mistake: they fall, then they avoid prayer, avoid church, and avoid God, as though God were surprised. He already knew your weakness before He called you.

When temptation comes, pray. Open your Bible. Worship. Call someone. Take a walk. Change your environment. Don’t sit there negotiating with the temptation like you’re discussing a business proposal.

Joseph didn’t pray beside Potiphar’s wife. He ran. Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is leave the room.

If You’ve Already Fallen…

Maybe you’ve watched pornography.

Maybe you’ve crossed physical boundaries.

Maybe masturbation has become a secret struggle.

Maybe you’ve gone further than you ever intended.

Hear this carefully: Your failure is not your identity.

1 John 1:9 reminds us that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us. Come back to God. He is ever-willing to take you back, and He doesn’t just forgive; He restores.

One Last Thing…

Sexual purity isn’t achieved because you never feel desire. It’s achieved because, every time desire shows up, you keep choosing Christ.

Sometimes you’ll win easily.

Sometimes you’ll have to fight.

Sometimes you’ll cry.

Sometimes you’ll start again.

Keep getting back up.

You’re not called to pretend temptation doesn’t exist; you’re called to overcome it through God’s grace. And by His grace…this heavenly race, we go make am!

We’d Love to Hear From You

Many believers quietly carry this struggle because they think no one else understands. Let’s change that.

Without sharing anything you’re uncomfortable with, what has helped you stay pure in today’s world? Share your thoughts in the comments—you never know who your story might help and encourage.

I struggled with sexual urge/masturbation for 21 years after Shiloh 2025 Holy Spirit helped me to stay out of social media and Also thought me what to say to myself, systems whenever the sexual urge and thoughts comes up.
Is been 8 months of God faithfulness. The chains of falling for the urge has been broken.
Although the thoughts comes but I will repeat what Holy Spirit thought me on Shiloh and Jesus is Lord.

Most recently, I pray even more when I fall because I now know I shouldn’t avoid God. Knowing that God wants me to draw closer regardless of my struggles, has helped me greatly

I always have this urge especially when I’m not doing anything. but anytime it comes , I either start praising God, by listening to any gospel music, or I will just be talking to God to help me as if I’m seeing him right that moment. and immediately, when I say immediately, the urge will disappear.
in most cases, I will hear a still voice that will whisper to me and say get up and walk around.
