We have established that nothing of value is ever free. Success is a valuable asset, so it comes with a cost. As it is written: Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard (Proverbs 13:15). Ignorance engenders hardship, but understanding paves the way to favour. Previously, we examined two factors that define the demand for success. We began with the factor of divine direction, and then the factor of divine wisdom. Let us now examine the factor of discipline. The Word says: This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success (Joshua 1:8; see also Deuteronomy 28:1). Although we are redeemed for the top, each one has to make their way there by following the instructions of the Scriptures.
What is discipline?
- It is possessing a sense of mission in pursuit of your life’s adventure. As it is written: All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any (1 Corinthians 6:12).
- It is operating as demanded, not as convenient. We live in a pleasure-sick world; everybody is going after pleasure, but the Bible says: Woe to them that are at ease in Zion… (Amos 6:1).
- It is taking responsibility for one’s actions or inactions. As it is written: Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him. For the LORD shall comfort Zion… (Isaiah 51:2-3).
- It is making the most of your time. The Bible says: Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time (Colossians 4:5; Ephesians 5:14-16). Give value to your time. Many precious destinies are held captive because they have not scheduled their time; therefore, it is available for robbery. Efficient time management is a core factor of discipline.
Without discipline, the future is bleak. Self-discipline is vital in realising your redemption heritage of being on top. Nothing secures progress like order. So, set order to your life, time, and issues of concern to you, and you would be amazed at how much there is in it.
