Engaging the Turnaround Power of Faith

All through the Scripture, faith has proved to be the trigger for everyone’s desired turnaround. Faith brought us out of darkness into light, which is called salvation. As it is written: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16), and when you believe, you are translated from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. That turnaround began with faith.

Please understand that proofs validate the authenticity of our faith. Whenever faith comes alive, victory comes along. As it is written: For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith (1 John 5:4). Every challenge of life answers to the authority of faith. So, whenever faith comes alive, victory comes along (Hebrews 10:38; Ephesians 6:16). Faith is either a now faith or dead faith—present tense faith.

The question then is, why is faith so powerful and why are many Christians so powerless? Among many other reasons, several believers have refused to take responsibility for building their faith. Faith has an unlimited capacity for growth, but it will not grow on its own; we must take responsibility to see our faith grow (2 Thessalonians 1:3).

According to the Scripture, faith is in levels; there is the measure of faith (Romans 12:3), this is the faith we engage for salvation. There is little faith; this cannot stand the storms of life (Matthew 8:25-26). You become helpless on the day of battle with little faith. There is great faith; this can deliver from any oppression of the devil (Matthew 15:28). There is also what the Bible defines as very great faith, which empowers believers for exploits (Matthew 8:8-13; Hebrews 11:32-33). Also, there is the spirit of faith, which positions believers for dominion. Therefore, faith is a personal asset of inestimable value that guarantees your victory in every battle of life.

What is Faith?

  • It is obeying God to prove you believe Him to commit Him to confirm His Word in your life. Obedience is the stronghold of Bible faith; when obedience is missing, faith is fake. If you cannot do what God tells you to do, you cannot see His hand at work (James 2:18-22).
  • It is reasoning with God in the light of His Word to discover what to do for His promises to come to pass in your life. As it is written: Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (1 Timothy 4:13, 15; also see Hebrews 4:2). Some Christians read the Bible like literature books; it is a manual for living.
  • It is putting God’s Word to work to fulfil His promises. As it is written: …work out your own salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12; see also Matthew 7:24-25). So, faith is not waiting for God to work; some have waited and wasted their whole lives. For instance, you cannot be in doubt of going to heaven if you keep doing what entitles you access; your confidence will be sure and strong.

How Powerful is Faith?

  • Faith secures the hand of God at will. The Bible says: Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed (Isaiah 53:1; see also Isaiah 14:24). So, faith brings the hand of God to bear in your life to establish your triumph over the circumstances of life.
  • Faith draws on the power of God to accomplish the impossible. The woman with the issue of blood had spent all her earnings on physicians and was not any better. However, as she touched the hem of Jesus’ garment, the flow of blood stopped instantly (Luke 8:40-48; Daniel 6:23). So, faith draws on the power of God to deal with impossible situations in your life.

We have established that faith has unlimited capacity for growth. As it is written: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father (John 14:12), that is doing the works Jesus did and going beyond it. That tells how much power is embedded in faith. We are in the school of faith, therefore we must keep our faith current to keep our victory intact.

Faith grows by hearing and understanding the Word of God (Acts 8:23-26). When understanding comes alive, faith comes alive. Nobody doubts what he can see, and spiritual understanding is about seeing what God is saying. Also, faith grows by meditation because meditation boosts spiritual understanding (Psalm 119:97-100; 1 Timothy 4:15).
