After taking my bath on a Thursday morning, I quickly rushed to get set for work, as I was almost already running late. As I was about to step out, I heard water droplets falling into a bucket. I immediately knew that I didn’t lock my bathroom tap well, but at that point, it didn’t matter; all I just wanted to do was get out of the house and head to work. “It’s just a single drop per time and in an empty bucket; it probably wouldn’t have amounted to much by the time I get back,” was my thought as I dashed out. 6-7 hours later, getting back to the house, the droplets hadn’t stopped, but there was an additional sound like that of an overflow. Rushing to check, the supposed ‘single drop per time’ had filled the bucket and was already overflowing. CONSISTENCY!
Let’s be honest; we’ve all experienced that “new year, new me” moment when we set numerous goals for our businesses and vow to wake up at 5 a.m. every morning just to pursue those goals. Fast forward two weeks, and many of us are already hitting the snooze button, neglecting the important tasks that could propel our business to the next level. We begin to wonder what the secret is that successful people have mastered.
Let me tell you: it’s not some superhuman skill. The simple but important ingredient is consistency. It is that essential quality that requires you to keep showing up!
Consistency is a fundamental principle in business that can significantly impact your brand’s reputation, customer loyalty, and overall growth. While consistency might sound so basic, it genuinely works! And it’s not just good advice; it’s essential. So, let’s explore how consistency can be the key to building a business that grows stronger every day.
1. Consistency Builds Trust
When you show up regularly, people know they can count on you. Just as you trust your favourite snack vendor to be open every morning on your way to work, your clients and audience will also start to rely on you. In business, trust is everything. By consistently delivering quality, you’re establishing a reputation that people can depend on, which is invaluable to your success.
2. Consistency Strengthens Your Skills
Think of it like a workout schedule for your business; the more effort you put in, the stronger you become, and your knowledge expands. Whether posting about your business on social media, connecting with clients, or improving your product packaging, each small effort adds up over time. As the Bible says, “Whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow” (Proverbs 13:11 NIV). The same principle applies to skill development—small, steady steps lead to significant growth.
3. Consistency Helps You Push Through Tough Days
Business has its ups and downs—some days are fantastic, and others… not so much. But you build resilience by continuously showing up, even on challenging days. Galatians 6:9 reminds us, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Remaining consistent helps you move forward, especially when you feel like throwing in the towel. When such moments come, you dab your sweat with the towel and keep moving.
4. Consistency Builds Momentum
Imagine a snowball rolling down a hill—it starts small but grows bigger and faster. That’s the power of consistency. You might not see much progress initially, but those small actions accumulate over time and create real momentum. Before you know it, things start happening, and your business begins to speed up.
5. Consistency Enhances Visibility
As Proverbs 22:29 states, “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” By remaining diligent in your efforts, you position yourself for greater visibility and recognition, much like the man in the verse who stands before kings. Consistent effort not only enhances your skills and expertise but also demonstrates to others that you take your craft seriously. Consistency distinguishes you in a world full of distractions, paving the way for new opportunities and success.
Little drops of water, they say, make an ocean. Why make a bucket with little drops when you can have the ocean?
Let consistent efforts speak for you in your business; determine to always show up and do what needs to be done, and soon, you will experience what good success means.
See you at the top!
