Now it’s time to let the Bible read you.”
Meditation in a biblical context is a spiritual discipline that involves deep reflection and contemplation on the Word of God. It is deeply encouraged throughout the scriptures to draw closer to God, understand His will, and apply His teachings in our day-to-day lives.
Biblical meditation is all about reflection for a period of time, which helps believers experience spiritual growth, wisdom and peace. It is simply gaining access to revelation. See what the Word says about the results of meditation in Joshua 1:8, which says,
The book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but thou shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do accordingly to all that is written in it; for then he will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
There is always a clear difference between a Christian who gives in to only reading the Word and one who gives in to studying and meditating on the Word. Meditating on God’s Word is you beholding Him in a glass and being changed into His image (2 Cor. 3:18).

Practical Steps to Meditate on the Bible
1. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes, speak to your heart, and guide your thoughts.
2. Choose a verse, a short passage, or even one chapter. Psalms, Proverbs, and the Gospels are great starting points.
3. Read the verse out loud a few times, and read it in different translations if you can. This helps different words or meanings stand out.
Your intellect blossoms when you give in to meditation because you begin to think like God.
4. Reflect and ask questions like:
* What is this verse saying?
* What does it reveal about God?
* How does it apply to my life today?
* Is there a promise to hold on to?
* Is there a warning, instruction, or encouragement?
5. Try to paint a picture in your mind. If it’s a story, imagine being there. If it’s a principle, imagine living it out. Applying these tips will make the scripture real to you.
6. Personalise the verse. It makes the Word feel more intimate and personal.
7. Jot down your reflections, revelations, and applications in a journal. Writing helps you process and remember what God is saying to you.
8. Speak the verse throughout the day, try to memorise it and let it be like a song on repeat.
9. Meditation without action is incomplete. Let the verse influence your thoughts, decisions, and behaviour throughout the day.
10. End with Thanksgiving and Prayer
What You Stand to Gain
When you rely on God’s Word by pondering and meditating on it, His Word tends to bring peace in any turmoil you find yourself in (Ps. 77).
If you want to live a stress-free life, you need to settle and ponder on God’s Word because His Word gives light and brings peace with assurance in the midst of chaos.
Meditation is a potent antidote against sin and a “cure for covetousness.” Meditation helps to prevent every vain and sinful thought and provides inner resources to draw from to prevent the savoury of sin (Matt. 12:35).
There is a story of a lady who received Christ into her life but was still entrapped in the sin of fornication; she felt trapped and didn’t believe she could overcome the sin of fornication. She was so bothered and decided to settle on the Word of God in 1 Corinthians 10:8, where she found that 23,000 children of Israel died because of the sin of fornication. She began to ponder on that word and read more scriptures on how to overcome it, which led her to pray and have faith for her deliverance. In no time, she got her testimony of deliverance, and she became a victor in that area. Meditation helps you increase in knowledge as a child of God. You only get an understanding of His Word when you ponder on it (Pro. 4:1-5).
Meditating on God’s Word makes you live in faith; trust solely in God and His promises (1 Tim 4:13-15).
Meditating on the scriptures as a believer and applying the wisdom gained gives you access to the realm of the Spirit of God for your spiritual growth and makes you a conqueror all the days of your life. – Ps. 19:4.
