From the last series, we have established that our inheritance in Christ demands sanctification for delivery (Acts 20:32). Sanctification is the only virtue that holds serious value on earth and eternity. As it is written: …and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come (1 Timothy 4:7-8). Therefore, it calls for attention because it is an all-out profitable virtue.
What are some of the benefits of sanctification?
- It empowers believers for exploits. According to the Scripture, only those who know their God will be strong and do exploits(Daniel 11:32). As it is written: The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him, and he will shew them his covenant (Psalm 25:14). So, exploits ride on the revelation of the covenant of God, which is only accessible on the platform of the fear of the Lord. That is knowing what God says to do and doing it, which then commits Him to fulfil His promise.
- It secures supernatural deliverance when attacked. As it is written: The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them (Psalm 34:7; see also Psalm 34:19, 125:1-3). For example, Daniel was thrown into the den of lions, and he came out unhurt because he purposed in his heart not to defile himself (Daniel 1:8, 6:4-5).
- It guarantees generational prosperity. The Bible says: The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him (Proverbs 20:7; Psalm 125:1-3; Proverbs 13:22).
- It guarantees eternity with Christ. Don’t be deceived; it takes sanctification to secure your place in eternity (1 Corinthians 6:9; Matthew 22:8-13, 5:8, 10).
What are some of the demands for living a sanctified life?
- Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers. As it is written:Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners (1 Corinthians 15:33; Psalm 1:1-3). How can the person you call your friend talk down on you when coming from church? And you call him your friend! You cannot tell the damage careless association might have brought into your life (Proverb 13:20). You cannot walk with those who beat their wives and not develop the capacity to start beating your wife. You cannot walk with arrogant wives and not become conceited. You can never experience holiness without walking with holy people (2 Corinthians 6:14).
- Be delighted in keeping His commandments. Don’t just keep His commandments; do them with delight, and do them as a privilege, not as a burden (Deuteronomy 28:47-48). Serving God with gladness and joyfulness of heart is key to profitable stewardship.
- Keep pressing towards your goal to make heaven. Sanctification is a lifelong race. Please note that past tense sanctification holds no water, where you are now is what matters (Ezekiel 18:24). When the rapture takes place, there will be no reference to your past but your present state. Sanctification is not a state but a journey (Hebrews 10:38; Philippians 3:12, 16), so ensure you do not come down from where grace has brought you.
The Bible says: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled (Matthew 5:6). When you hunger and thirst after righteousness, He will fill you. Be reminded that your stewardship demands sanctification to be profitable.
Your labour will not be in vain!
